In-universe, Aoba’s special abilities can be summed up pretty succinctly: mind control. But not just any mind control! Coming in two fairly well-defined variations, Aoba can use his voice to affect and control the minds of other people. When he drops his voice to a certain tone, this effect is activated, with varying results based on the intention, the person, and his level of concentration at the time.

The first variation: control. Aoba can make people want things, do things, feel things, and think things by speaking this intention to them. On the low-grade end, he can urge a person to buy computer parts they don’t really need (a guy has got to eat, okay); on the high-grade end, he can absolutely convince a person that their feet are glued to the floor or that they are sinking into a great abyss, never to escape. This variation has shown itself to be mainly temporary, shaken off by enough willpower or after a certain amount of time has passed, though the duration will be longer and there may be lasting effects depending on how much strength he uses.

The second variation: destroy. Aoba can enter the mind directly, jumping into a landscape formed by the memories, personality, and deepest feelings of the individual. Once there, he can use his voice to “destroy” some part of them, be it their self-doubt, past demons, or their willingness to live. This power can be used either to save a person by freeing them from the horrors within themselves or to outright crush their minds or anything that made them who they were. This action, called Scrap, is almost always permanent; it has been shown to be overturned all of once, and in that case it had been a failed, incomplete Scrap.

It should be noted that Aoba has been shown capable of using Scrap on an artificial lifeform, implying that his voice doesn’t just affect humans, but any creature or being capable of sentient thought and possessing a mind of some kind for him to enter. This, as well as the upper limits of his capabilities, has not been extensively tested; he has been told he’s a being capable of “destroying the world”, but he hasn’t tried and certainly doesn’t intend to.

Understandably, there are a few severe weaknesses in his abilities. For one, if he can’t be heard or he can’t speak, neither variation of his power can be used. The first variation also does not directly affect or change reality; the person can’t move their feet because they don’t think they can, not because they’re actually glued to the floor. And, less obviously, the second variation, Scrap, is useless against individuals with nothing within their minds to actually latch on to; various mental disorders and disabilities make it difficult or impossible for Aoba to touch their minds with Scrap, though the requirements to be successful vary from individual to individual.

So, to tl;dr: Mind Control, Mind Destruction.

What this means for you:

Please fill out the text form below to let me know a variety of things! First and foremost, if Aoba can/is capable of using his regular mental compulsion on your character. This can be anything mundane as making them want a coffee when he wants them to want it, all the way up to physically restraining them with the idea that they can't move. Secondly, if Aoba can/is capable of using Scrap on your character, which would be directly entering their mind to "destroy" some aspect of them (this would, of course, be plotted out beforehand). And, lastly, what their mental landscape would be like! Since every mind is different.
